Bob Benson, 79, of Rockwell, died Monday, September 7, 2015, at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, at Retz Funeral Home, Sheffield, with Rev. Beverly Butler presiding. Interment will be at the Rockwell Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at Retz Funeral Home, Sheffield. Bob’s family requests casual dress for both the visitation and the service.

Robert Dewayne Benson was born November 1, 1935, in Hampton, Iowa a son of Welton and Lois (Schindele) Benson. At a young age Bob’s family moved to Texas where he attended school. After receiving his education Bob returned to Hampton to work with his step-grandfather. He later began working for the City of Rockwell.

Bob was united in marriage with Marlys ‘Sis’ Buffington June 10, 1956, in Hampton. They made their home in Rockwell where they raised their family. Bob continued working for the City of Rockwell and retired after 30 years of dedicated service.

Bob liked hunting in his early years and thoroughly enjoyed family camping and fishing trips to Bay City, Wisconsin. He enjoyed attending auctions and time spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A natural joker, he was always a kid at heart and will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Marlys; children: Jeanne (Jerry) Sable; Rob (Jeni) Benson, all of Rockwell, grandchildren: Stacey (Travis) Highley, Dave Garrison, Nicole White, Lucas Benson; great grandchildren: Kayden, Cooper, Conner, Dallas, Blake, and Sydney; step-grandchildren: Scott (Neely) Sable and their children; Michelle Sable and her children; brothers: Roger Benson and Ron Benson; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard and sisters Vera and Darlene.
