MRS. SAM (WOODY) KENNEDY

Mrs. Sam (Woody) Kennedy, 69, died Friday, September 17 at Mercy Hospital where she had been for a week, following a heart attack.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 20, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with Reverend Murley Severtson, officiating.

Burial was in Clear Lake Cemetery. Ward-Van Slyke Funeral home was in charge. Organist was Mrs. A.E. Folkmann and Ray Osthus was soloist.

Mrs. Kennedy was born on December 23, 1906 at Coin, Iowa, the daughter of E. Arthur and Effie Porter.

She graduated from Olgivie, Minn. High School, St. Cloud Teacher’s College and attended the University of Colorado at Boulder. She came to Clear Lake in 1929 and taught sixth grade in Central School for 19 years. On June 26, 1949 she married Sam L. Kennedy, Clear Lake. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was active in the Friendship Evangelism Group.

She is survived by three stepdaughters, Mrs. Richard (Jane) Harry, Canfield, Ohio; Mrs. Ralph (Marguerite) Smith, Rochester, Minn., and Mrs. Kenneth (Kathryn) Pearson, Minneapolis, Minn. Two stepsons, James and Jack Kennedy, both of Clear Lake. Thirteen grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Florence Davenport, La Crescenta, Calif., and Angeline Roorda, Clear Lake, a long time friend, with whom she had made her home since the death of her husband, Sam in 1969. Two nephews and one niece also survive.

Mrs. Kennedy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Pallbearers were Larry Secory, Ralph Schroeder, Roger Ritter, Louis Schuler, Orin Holstad and James Mowrey.
