December 06, 2002MASON CITY - A spirited treasure of a woman has passed from us, but left us with a circle of love and happiness that will forever surround us.
Anna "Marie" Mantz, 94, died Wednesday (Dec. 4, 2002) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Father Chris Podhajsky officiating. A private burial will be held at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rockwell.
Memorials may be directed to the Marie Mantz Memorial Fund.
Marie Mantz was born in Swaledale on Nov. 25, 1908, the daughter of George and Anna (Martin) Mantz. She graduated from Swaledale High School in 1927. In the fall of 1927, she started school at Hamilton Business College in Mason City.
She worked for James E. Williams, attorney at law, until 1944, and then for Lawrence Mason. In 1951, she began work at Iowa Hardware Mutual Insurance Co. (Kemper Insurance Co.) as a purchasing agent until her retirement in November 1973.
Following her retirement, she resided in Mason City.
She enjoyed watching sports, bingo, ceramics, and spending time with her family and friends.
She was a faithful member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and enjoyed her residence at Willow Pointe Assisted Living Facility for the past four years.
Marie never married but played a special role in the lives of her many nieces and nephews.
Those who will deeply miss Marie and cherish her loving kindness include her sister, Margaret "Irene" Tracy, of Janesville, Wis., and nieces and nephews, George Gish, of Las Vegas, Nev., Dorothy Nisbet, of San Antonio, Texas, Mary Nicastro, of State College, Pa., David Gish, of Oxnard, Calif., Catherine Turnbull, of Mason City, Jamie Sinclair, of Oakdale, Minn. (formerly of Mason City), Ann Anderson, of Spring, Texas, Danny Robertson, of Plano, Texas, John and Tom Meyer, of Iowa City, Steve Meyer, of Fairfax, Paul Tracy, of Anniston, Ala., Vicki Flora, of Racine, Wis., Sue Tracy, of Janesville, and Marie's many special friends and staff from Willow Pointe.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Catherine Robertson, Helen Meyer and Sienna Gish.
