John Hanley, 83, retired sexton of St. Patrick's Cemetery, Dougherty, died Friday evening [December 17, 1954] at a Mason City hospital. He was a native of Ireland, born Jan. 1, 1871, and had never married.
He came to the United States at the age of 12 and had lived in Cerro Gordo County, in and around Dougherty and Rockwell, since that time.
Surviving are two brothers, Ed of Greene and Charles of Inwood, Ontario, Canada; two sisters, Alice Dodd, Nora Springs, and Mrs. R. J. Richardson, Sarina, Ontario, Canada, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters.
Funeral services have been set for 9 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Church at Dougherty, the Rev. A. A. McAvoy officiating. Friends may call at the Colonial Funeral Home, Mason City, from 5 p.m. Saturday until the time of services. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery at Rockwell.
