ROCKWELL, July 2. - Funeral services for John Gaffney Sr., who died suddenly Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.L. Tanner, of heart disease, will be held here Wednesday morning at the Sacred Heart Church.

Thursday, July 18, 1929John Gaffney, Oldest Citizen of Rockwell, Nearly 95 Years Old
Rockwell lost its oldest citizen with the death of John Gaffney at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elmer Tanner, in Mason City. Mr. Gaffney, who would have been 95 years of age August 15, was born in County West Meath, Ireland. He was married to Bridget Rielly in 1863 and together they came to America in 1865.
For a time, they lived in Rhode Island, later coming west to Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. Gaffney came to Rockwell in April, 1871. They had 12 children, eight of whom are still living. Mrs. Gaffney died some years ago. The surviving children are John, James and M.M., Rockwell, Mrs. Tanner, Mason City, Mrs. Clifford Hinman, Sheffield, Mrs. P. Egan and Mrs. Margaret Wilde, Minneapolis, and Charles, Elk River, Minnesota.
Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart Church in Rockwell and burial was in the [Sacred Heart] Catholic Cemetery south of there, where Mrs. Gaffney is buried. The services were in charge of the Rev. J. Hartigan.
