Richard Walter Ermer was born on August 21, 1925 in Kinsgley, the son of August and Margaret (Peschel) Ermer. Rich attended and graduated from Sheffield High School amongst the class of 1943. Upon his graduation Rich enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he honorably and faithfully served his country during World War II.
On November 29, 1952 Rich was united in marriage to Marcele Gallagher at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell by Father Bohrer; this union would be blessed with three children. Rich and Marcele made their home on a farm outside of Rockwell where Rich devoted countless years to farming the land. He loved farming and was often eager to visit with his fellow farmers. In his free time Rich enjoyed fishing and golfing and was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Twins, and the Minnesota Vikings. But Rich's greatest love was his family, he loved being a father and grandfather and enjoyed teasing his grandchildren every chance he got!
In former years Rich served on the Farmer's Co Op Elevator Board, the church council, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Those grateful in sharing in Rich's life are his wife of 59 years, Marcele, Rockwell; his three children, Nancy (Ken) Winkler, State Center, Rick (Leanne) Ermer, Garner, and Anne (Jason) Nord, Ames; his grandchildren, Todd, Tony, Tyler, Joe, Jimmy, Jack, Taylor, Anna, Tyler, and Tanner; his great grandchildren, Aidan and Peyton; and his siblings, Herb, Gert, Clarence, George, Floyd, Bob, Eunice, and Jim.
