Patrick E. Cahill, 68, of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, and formerly of Waterloo and Denver, Iowa, died on Monday evening (May 5, 1997)at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., from complications of pneumonia.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waverly, Iowa, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Rockwell, Iowa.

Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m. Thursday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver, Iowa, where there will be a 7:30 p.m. vigil service. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Horseshoe Bend. The Cahill family suggests that memorials be directed to the Lions World Services for the Blind.

Patrick was born on Dec. 30, 1928, in Cartersville, Iowa, the son of John V. and Ella C. (Beecher) Cahill. Pat was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell, Iowa.

He graduated from the Rockwell High School in 1947, and then attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, and Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa. Pat worked for his father in the family auto shop in Rockwell, Iowa, from age 10. While in college, Pat worked for SS Kresge Company and Peter Kewitt Construction Company in Wyoming building roads in the summer of 1950.

On Aug. 25, 1951, he was united in marriage to Ruth A. Suss at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger, Iowa. The couple made their home in Waterloo, Iowa, where Pat worked as a supervisor in the IBM Tabulating Department at Rath Packing from 1951-1957, Shift Assistant Manager from 1957-62, scheduling coordinator from 1962-69, and traveling auditor from 1969-1974.

In 1974, the couple to Denver, Iowa, where Pat continued to work at Rath Packing as manager of Internal Auditing from 1974-1982. The couple then moved to San Antonio, Texas, where Pat worked for Clarke Checks as an internal auditor until February of 1986,and from 1986 until 1988 worked at Budget Rent-a-Car. In mid 1994, the couple made their home in Horseshoe Bend, where they have currently been living.

Pat was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa, and a member of St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church in Horseshoe Bend. He was active with the Horseshoe Bend Lions Club and a member of the Police Auxiliary.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; three sons and their wives, Tim and Lois Cahill of Worthington, Iowa; Terry and Nancy Cahill and David and Tracey Cahill, all of Denver, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Chad, Sean, Jordyn, Kiley, Collin, Matthew and Katlynn Cahill; his mother, Ella Cahill of Rockwell, Iowa; four sisters and their husbands, Mary and John Sturges of Rockwell, Iowa; Helen and Leo Nash of Naples, Fla.; Tina and Paul Sturges of Waverly, Iowa, and Gigi Cahill of Milwaukee, Wis.; and three brothers and their wives, Jerry and Andy Cahill of Mechanicsville, Ohio; Eddie and Pat Cahill of Waterloo, Iowa, and Mike and Shirley Cahill of Albuquerque, N.M.

He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Martin; and two sisters, Patrice and Jean Marie.
