AN UNTIMELY DEATH
LEWIS WELKER, SON OF MR. AND MRS. T. WELKER, OF THIS CITY, MEETS SUDDEN DEATH AT ANGUS, WIS. WHILE WORKING ON ENGINE.

Mr. and Mrs. Of this city received a message from Wisconsin, Saturday, bearing the sad intelligence that their son Lew had met with an accident. In response to the telegram, Mrs. Welker and her son, Albert of Thornton left Saturday noon for Angus, Wis., where Lewis had been living during the past three years. They found upon their arrival, that the accident had cost Lew’s life; and on Monday morning word was received here that the body would be brought to Clear Lake for burial. The remains arrived this morning and the funeral will be held at the Theodore Welker home tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. Evans will preach the funeral sermon.

Lewis Welker was born Jan. 22, 1878, at Lee County, Ill. He spent his boyhood days in Illinois. At the age of seventeen he moved with his parents to Iowa.

He was married to Miss Minnie Shannon, June 15, 1904, at Thornton, Iowa. They went at once to S. Dak., where they followed the occupation of farming. At the end of four years they moved back to Iowa, later to Minnesota, and in 1914 to Angus, Wis., where on last Friday, Oct. 19, 1917, Mr. Welker met his death by an accident while working at an engine. He leaves to mourn his untimely death a wife, father, mother, three sisters, five brothers, and a host of friends.

Mr. Welker is a man who will be greatly missed, for he was ever ready to help neighbor and friend alike, and to aid in every project which was for the good of his community.
