HOLD RITES FOR MRS. C. LAING
FORMER LAKE RESIDENT DIED AT SIOUX FALLS FROM HEART ATTACK

CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services for Mrs. Dena E. Laing, 74, who died at Sioux Falls, S. Dak., Christmas Day, were held at the grave in Clear Lake cemetery at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. S. M. Stenby conducting the rites. Ward’s funeral home made the arrangements.

Dena Elise Schow was born in Norway in 1862, and came to the United States when 10 years of age. On May 30, 1882, she was married to Nels C. Matson, Clear Lake, and to this union two children, Will and Josephine, were born.

The family moved to South Dakota in 1892. Mr. Matson died there in 1917 and the son Will in 1918. Mrs. Matson married George W. Laing, Bridgewater, S. Dak., in 1919 and had since made her home there.

On the Saturday before Christmas she fell and broke her hip. She was taken to a hospital in Sioux Falls where she was apparently recovering until she had a heart attack Christmas morning and died before her daughter, Mrs. Josephine Preszler, could reach her.

Besides her daughter, Mrs. Laing is survived by a granddaughter, Mrs. Alice Kockrow, Omaha, and a grandson, Jack Matson, student at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion.

Fred and Myron Schow, Clear Lake, and Will Schow, Garner, are nephews of Mrs. Laing.

The body was accompanied by Mrs. Preszler and Mr. Matson who expect to return to South Dakota Wednesday morning.

Transcriber’s Note – Dena Elise Matson Laing was born 1862, died December 25, 1936 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section 3 Row 4 under the name Dena Matson.
