FORMER LAKE RESIDENT DIES IN CALIFORNIA

CLEAR LAKE – Andrew R. Petersen, 81, a former Clear Lake resident, died late Monday afternoon at a hospital in Banning, Calif. He entered the hospital after suffering a coronary occlusion Thursday.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Arthur Krebs officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery. The body will arrive Thursday.

Andrew Rasmus Petersen was born May 8, 1879, in Jackson County the son of Peter O. and Marie Jorgensen Petersen. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Clinton. At the age of five years he moved with his parents to Hancock County. He was married to Ella Nelson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Nelson, Feb. 6, 1901, at Garner.

They farmed in the Miller and Ventura vicinity until the spring of 1920 when they moved to Clear Lake and opened a shoe store, operating it a few years.

Mr. Petersen worked for the Williams Furniture Store, Ward Furniture Store and as a city policeman for 11 years. Mrs. Petersen died May 2, 1933. He was married Nov. 25, 1936, to Ethel Armentrout in Clear Lake. In the fall of 1942 they moved to Banning, Calif., where they have since lived.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; a son Kenneth N., Ventura; a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Nell) Knapp, Clear Lake; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. T. W. (Emma) Tompkins, Clear Lake, and Minnie Daniels, Aberdeen, S.D., and two brothers, Peter O., Ventura, and Fred W. Petersen, Clear Lake. He was preceded in death by grandson, Arlen Petersen; a brother, George; and two sisters, Tina Klinge and Mary Jacobson. Mr. Petersen was a member of IOOF lodge 187, Clear Lake.
