PASSING OF A PIONEER

Mrs. E. F. Dort died at her residence in Clear Lake early in the morning of Tuesday, July 28th, at the advanced age of 83 years. Death was not unexpected, as Mrs. Dort had been ailing for some time.

The deceased, whose maiden name was Elvira Fay Gibbs, was born in Sullivan, N.H., September 12, 1813, and was married to Williard Dort, April 24, 1834. Three children were born to them, all of whom are now living. One son resides in New York, one in Wisconsin and the only daughter, Mrs. R. A. Howard, is a resident of Clear Lake, she and her mother having always lived together.

Mr. and Mrs. Dort were converted in their early married life and united with the Baptist church. They came to Clear Lake in the spring of 1857, where Mrs. Dort has lived ever since, her husband dying about fifteen years ago. She was of a quiet and retiring disposition, devoted to her home and family. A characteristic and beautiful trait in her character was her kindness towards all dumb animals. She was a charter member of the Baptist church and her life was devoted to it and the cause of Christianity.

Funeral services will be held in the Baptist church this afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Bellman, pastor of the church.
