CHRISTINE HALFORD

Mrs. Christine E. Halford, 92, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. James Louk officiating. Burial was in Clear Lake Cemetery. Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of services.

The family requests memorials be given to North Iowa Medical Center, Mason City.

She was born Sept. 12, 1898, in rural Ventura to Iver and Lena (Thronson) Edmundson. She attended Ventura schools. She worked in her parent’s restaurant in Ventura and Crystal Lake.

She married Robert Sidney Halford on March 27, 1921, in Ventura. She worked in Wolfram’s Grocery Store in Ventura. They then opened Halford’s Café in Clear Lake in 1942.

They sold that business and then operated Clear Lake All Vets Country Club Restaurant from 1947-1948. In 1950 they started another Halford’s Café in Clear Lake which they operated until 1966 when they sold it. Mrs. Halford later worked at the Fashion Shop in Clear Lake. She loved playing bridge.

She was member of United Methodist Church, Wa Tan Ye Club, American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Halford, Clear Lake, and Richard Halford, Santa Fe, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, five sisters and one grandson.

Honorary pallbearers were Harold Thompson, A. E. Nelson, M. A. Arneson, Ray Bieber, Don Nelson, Louis Schuler, Curtis Christensen and Les Godden.

Active pallbearers were Jim Merwin, Dick Minette, Max Christensen, Don Jacobson, Jack Brown and Jim Connell.

Organist Mary Jane Reynolds accompanied soloist Marilyn Sadler.
