CLEAR LAKE | Jerry Edward Davis, 78, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., with Pastor Dennis Ganz officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Per Jerry's wishes, his body will be cremated following services and a private inurnment will be at a later date.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.Family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of North Iowa.

Jerry was born Aug. 10, 1937, the son of Clair G. and Helen A. (Renz) Davis, in Mason City. A graduate of Clear Lake High School, class of 1955, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as a radioman.

Jerry was an insurance agent for most of his life and worked security at Rees' Contract Services, Menards, and the Social Security Administration office. He also worked at Shady Beach for a short time.

Jerry enjoyed woodworking, refinishing old furniture, gardening and canning. He was always interested in motorcycles and boats, especially his 1974 3580 cc Honda motorcycle and 1951 Chris Craft Woody boat. He also liked sharing stories about his past and the things he had seen and done. Jerry and Marlene enjoyed spending time together watching the wildlife in their backyard.

Jerry is survived by Marlene Barkela of Clear Lake; two daughters, Dawn Chadrick of Kearney, NE, and Jennifer Jo (Mark) Tannenbaum of Des Moines; seven grandchildren, Jake Chadrick, Haylee Chadrick, Christian Chadrick, Amy Johnson, Arin Johnson, Emma Tannenbaum and Sophie Tannenbaum; one great-granddaughter Skyla Chadrick; a sister Judy Lincicum of Clear Lake; and Marlene's son Jerry (Lori) Barkela of Clear Lake, grandchildren, David (Ali) Barkela and Adam (Kate) Barkela, and great-granddaughter Maren Barkela.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clair and Helen Davis, and a brother-in-law Clayton Lincicum.
