Murlin L. (Jon) Benn, 52, of 916 S. Virginia, died of injuries received when the northbound car he was driving on a Cerro Gordo County gravel road swerved after topping a hill, went into the ditch and rolled over about 5 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the Iowa Highway Patrol and county Sheriff's reports, the crash occurred about two miles east of Highway 65 at the intersection of 35th SE. A patrol trooper estimated speed of the car at 55-60 mph. Investigation was continuing Wednesday.

Tentatively, funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Rockwell.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation is after noon Thursday until 9 a.m. Friday at Patterson James Funeral Chapel in Mason City.

Mr. Benn was a self-employed Mason City oil distributor. He served with the U.S. Merchant Marine in World War II and was a member of VFW.

Survivors are a daughter, Bonni, Mason City; three sons, Jon Jr.; Jay, Matthew, all of Mason City; his father, Fred Benn, rural Rockwell; a grandchild; three sisters, Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Johnson, rural Swaledale; Mrs Phillip (Marjorie) Jerrel, Mason City; Mrs. Jack (Beverly) Nimno, Dumfeldt, W. Germany; and a brother Otto, Plymouth.
