December 27, 1922 ~ May 27, 1993

Edward H. Berding, 70, of 618 N. Pennsylvania Ave., died Thursday (May 27, 1993) at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Ernest Thompson of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by members of the Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.

Memorials may be given to the Edward H. Berding Memorial Fund.

Edward H. Berding was born December 27, 1922 near Burchinal, a son of Ben and Petra (Kock) Berding. He married Frances Hrubetz on December 1, 1962, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He attended school in the Burchinal area. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart, World War II Victory Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star, and an APTC Ribbon with a Bronze Star. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad and Armour Co. until they closed in 1975. Later he did carpentry work, retiring in 1984.

He was a member of the V.F.W. and Moose Lodge, both in Mason City. His favorite sport was fishing.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Frances; daughter, Debra; and grandson, Brandon.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Berding of Mason City; one daughter, Debra Nelson and husband, Ron, Mason City; a grandson, Brandon, Mason City; two sisters, Bertha Rippen and Freda Clark, both of Mason City; three brothers, Alvin Berding, Mason City, Alfred Berding, Plymouth, and Robert Berding, Council Bluffs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John.
