FUNERAL SERVICES HELD ON SUNDAY FOR CHARLES MCGRADY

Charles McGrady, aged 76, died at his home on Clara street last Friday morning. He had been in failing health for sometime and contracted pneumonia from which he was unable to recover.

He had lived in this neighborhood over 50 years, having spent some time in Forest City.

C. H. McGrady, son of John and Anna McGrady, was born on Sept. 27, 1860, near McGregor in Clayton county. In the spring of 1870 he moved with his parents to a farm near Clear Lake where he lived until 1886 when he began farming for himself in Winnebago county.

In 1893 he returned to Cerro Gordo county where he engaged in active farm life until the spring of 1932 when he retired to Clear Lake where he lived until his death last Friday morning, April 15.

On Aug. 7, 1890, he was married to Miss Margaret Cain at Forest City. To this union six children were born, Leo, Ralph, Clarence, Sidney, Oliver and Florence, all living in or near Clear Lake with the exception of Leo, who preceded his father in death 11 years ago, and Clarence, who is in the west.

Besides his wife and children Mr. McGrady is survived by a brother, Wesley McGrady, Clear Lake, and one sister, Mrs. Lucie Colby, Lee, Ill. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon from the home with the Rev. Roy H. Cox, conducting the rites. Burial was in Clear Lake cemetery with Ward’s Funeral Home in charge.

Pallbearers were Walter Smith, Leo Elting, Walter Leonard, Lyle Bokelman, Walter Sorenson and George Ballantyne. Musical numbers “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Jesus Savior, Pilot me” were rendered by a quartet consisting of Miss Evelyn Johnson, Mrs. Roy Cox, Fred Martin and Wilbur Johnson. Flowers were arranged by Mrs. Will McKibben and Mrs. Elting.
