RAYMOND E. MCGOWAN

CLEAR LAKE – Raymond E. McGowan, 69, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Oct. 15, 1991) at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. Officiating will be the Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors by the Clear Lake VFW.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today until time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Raymond E. McGowan memorial fund.

Raymond E. McGowan was born June 24, 1922, at Clear Lake, a son of Charles and Delya (Heltman) McGowan. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1940 and Mason City Junior College in 1942.

Mr. McGowan worked for Duesenberg Construction on the Alcan Highway in Alaska. He served in the Army during World War II. He married Patricia Justin on June 21, 1944, at Mason City. After the service, he came back to Clear Lake where he worked for Marshall and Swift as a route driver and later managed the office in Clear Lake. Due to an accident, he retired from Marshall and Swift in 1970. He started selling AAA Insurance in 1971 until his retirement in 1987.

Mr. McGowan loved to hunt and fish. He belonged to the Clear Lake VFW, Duck’s Unlimited and the Clear Lake IOOF Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia McGowan of Clear Lake; one son, Michael, and his wife, Pamela McGowan, Edina, Minn.; one daughter, Kathy and her husband Lance Olson, Rock Rapids; one sister, Mrs. Arthur (Neva) Armsbury, Clear Lake ; and five grandchildren, Daniel, Peter and Patrick McGowan and Lisa and Brent Olson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mrs. Doris Garlock.
