RUBY SHAY DIES AT 50

CLEAR LAKE – Mrs. R. Dean (Ruby) Shay, 50, of 1213 Main Avenue, died Sunday morning at a Mason City hospital, following an illness of about three weeks.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Gullickson officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Ward Van Slyke Funeral Home.

Born June 22, 1923, in Mason City, she was the daughter of Chris and Amalia Sorensen Andersen of Clear Lake. She received her education in Clear Lake schools, and worked at various jobs in Clear Lake. For the last eight years she worked at the Clear Lake Bakery. She was married to R. Dean Shay on Aug. 9, 1942, at Thompson, where they lived a short time before moving to Hastings, Neb. They came to Clear Lake in 1945, where he worked as a barber until retiring because of ill health. Mr. Shay died in October 1972.

She is survived by two sons, James, Nicollet, Minn.; Tom at home; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Connie) Gansen, Clear Lake; and Janet, at home; a brother, Chris (Gunner) Andersen, Des Moines; three sisters, Mrs. Merlyn (Vi) Stokes, Mason City; Mrs. Donald (Ann) Hill, Clear Lake; Mrs. Clarence (Emma) Peterson, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and three grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a son, William.

Pallbearers will be Ken Swenson, Kenneth Post, Carl Crotty, Ray E. Hansen, Earl Weaver, Carl Nielsen, Bynum Jacobson, and Gordon Stokes.
