THOMAS “RAYMOND” SMITH

RUDD – Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Rockford, for Thomas R. “Raymond” Smith, 75, of Rudd, who died Monday (Jan. 6, 1986) at home.

The Rev. Joseph A. Sullivan will officiate and l will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday at Hogan-Bremer-Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, where a parish rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Smith was born Dec. 23, 1910 in Blaine, Kan., to James E. and Margaret (Corrigan) Smith. He was raised and attended school in Kansas and moved to Iowa in 1934, living in the Charles City and Rudd areas. He served in the U.S. Navy and married Dorothy Mae Scholl on Feb. 9, 1937 at Rockford. After his discharge from the Navy he worked in the trucking business throughout Iowa. Mr. Smith owned and operated Ray’s Tavern in Rudd for 10 years and was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Mrs. Terry (Linda) Quackenbush, Rudd; two sons, Tom, Centerville, and Max, Burt; six grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Otis (Mary Frances) Mailen, Clay Center, Kan.; Mrs. Louise Benson, Brainerd, Minn.; Mrs. Julia Wood, Andover, Kan.; Mrs. Margaret Chartier, Topeka, Kan., and Mrs. Maurice (Delores) Landry, Ames, Kan.; and three brothers, Chuck, Nora Springs; Jim, Hawthorne, Calif., and Lee, Cypress, Calif.
