SET CHARLES SMITH RITES WEDNESDAY

CLEAR LAKE – Charles D. Smith, 78, Route 1, died Sunday afternoon in a Mason City hospital where he had been a patient about 10 days.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home with the Rev. August Geske, of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation is to be at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Charles David Smith was born May 6, 1891, at West Union, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Mary (Steck) Smith. When young, he moved with his family to a farm south of Des Moines and in 1909, they moved to a farm near Meservey. He was married to Dollie Shaffer Dec. 2, 1919, at Mason City. They farmed north of Meservey and then moved to a farm south of Clear Lake where they have lived 41 years.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Bennie O. Smith, Clear Lake; three brothers, Coleman Smith, Gary, Ind.; Clyde Smith, Meservey; and Wilbur Smith, Nevada; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Pallbearers selected include Nels Larsen, Clare Olson, George Albers, Paul Callanan, Harold Kaster and John Nichols.
