SIX CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN SURVIVE LAKER

Mrs. Lenna Smith, 65, died at her home, Emerson street, Monday forenoon following an illness of several months. She lived in Clear Lake for almost 20 years.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Gospel Tabernacle with the Rev. V.E. Gowdy, pastor of the Christian Missionary Alliance church, Mason City, officiating. The Rev. W.H. Ashcraft, pastor of the Gospel Tabernacle and Miss Vivian Turner of Mason City, sang “Jesus I Come” and “Will Jesus Find Us Watching.” Burial was made in the Clear Lake cemetery with the Ward Funeral home in charge.

Mrs. Smith, nee Lenna Marshall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Marshall, was born near Selma, Van Buren county, Iowa, April 19, 1877. When she was 16 years of age she was converted and affiliated with the church, Sunday school and its organizations.

In 1899 she was married to Clyde Nelson Smith. To them were born eight children, six of whom survive her: Stanley Smith, Waterloo; Dorothy Lenna Larrabee, Webster, Wisc.; Winifred Laura Tripp, Pomona, Cal.; Sarah Lea Smith, Clear Lake; Temperance Lee, Madison, Wis.; and Mira Arbutus Nerenberg, Milwaukee, Wis. A brother, Don Marshall, of Bantry, N.D., also survives her.

A daughter, Lillian Johnson, a grandson, Conrad Johnson, and a daughter Lola Mettler, also preceded her in death. A granddaughter, Constance Johnson, was reared by her grandmother after her mother’s death and Miss Johnson was most faithful in the home, caring for her during her last illness. Her daughter, Sarah, also assisted in the care of her mother. Eleven grandchildren also survive her.

Mrs. Smith and her family came to Clear Lake in 1923 since which time she has made many loyal friends who esteemed her highly.

Pallbearers were H.A. Lyons, T.E. Nelson, Charles Nelson, S.A. Burnett, S.P. Hanson and W.W. Jones. Mrs. Gertrude Bice and Mrs. Belle Frey were in charge of the flowers.

Relatives from away at the funeral were the son, Stanley Smith, Waterloo; and the daughters, Dorothy Larrabee, Temperance Lee and Arbutus Nerenberg.
