OBITUARY

Mrs. Elizabeth Nichols died at the home of her daughter, Florence A. Simenson, at 5:30 a.m., Sunday, Dec 24, 1916. She was born in Bergen, Norway, March 20th, 1839. When 14 years of age she came with her parents to this country and settled in Dane county, Wisconsin.

On May 10, 1856, she was married to Edwin Nichols and immediately came to Clear Lake, where she lived until 1912 when she went to live with her daughter, Florence A. Simonson.

Five children were born, Florence A. Simonson of Swaledale, Edwin J. Nichols of Tyler, Texas, Charles B., who died in infancy, Charles Ludwig of Clear Lake, Iowa, Wilfred Christian of Goodland, Kansas.

She was brought up in the Lutheran faith but after coming to Clear Lake she united with the Methodist Episcopal church. She went through the hardships of the early pioneer time and hardships of another kind during the time her husband, Edwin Nichols was in the Civil war, she being left alone with two children. All of the children were present at the funeral except Wilford C. of Kansas.
