C. L. NICHOLS RITES HELD MONDAY, M.E. CHURCH
WAS ONE OF THE OLDEST RESIDENTS OF THIS PART OF THE COUNTY

C. L. Nichols, who became ill and was taken to the Mercy hospital on Monday of last week, passed away Friday evening at 6:15.

Funeral services were held at the First Methodist church, Clear Lake, on Monday afternoon at 2:30, said services being conducted by the Rev. T.B. Collins, pastor of the church.

The pallbearers were Will McGowan, H.N. Halvorson, H.H. Huntley, Frank Miles, Jim Barlow and Fred Schow.

Fred Martin sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and the “Old Rugged Cross,” accompanied by Mrs. Harry Mason at the organ.

Mrs. Lloyd Crozier, Mrs. Chris Sorenson, and Mrs. Roy Badker had charge of the flowers.

Ludwig Nichols was born Oct 14, 1867 on the south shore of Clear Lake, in the house second door south of Touristville garage. Here his parents lived for several years, at which time his father was postmaster and the post office was in this residence.

Mr. Nichols grew to manhood in Clear Lake and was married September 24, 1891 to Miss Alice Hayward. They established their home south of Clear Lake where they resided until three years ago when they moved into Clear Lake.

To Mr. and Mrs. Nichols six children were born; Ruth Morn of Nevada, Ia.; Mrs. Janice Piper, of Rochester, Ind.; Mrs. Marjorie (Guy) Caffrey, Edwin, John and Robert of Clear Lake.

Besides the above member of the family, he leaves one brother Wilfred C. Nichols of Durango, Colorado.

Mr. Nichols was a good honest citizen, held in the highest esteem by all who knew him, and his passing takes one of the oldest residents of Clear Lake and vicinity.

The out-of-town relatives present were Mrs. Ruth Morn of Nevada, Iowa; Mrs. Janice Piper of Rochester, Ind.; and Mrs. E. M. MacEwen and daughters, Helen and Marion of Iowa City.

Transcriber’s Note – Charles Ludwig Nichols was born October 14, 1867, died June 9, 1939 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section 8 Row 9.
