JOHN C. NICHOLS, SR.

John C. Nichols, Sr., 86, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, June 22, 1994, at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 25, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.

John Nichols was born Aug. 15, 1907, in rural Clear Lake, the son of Charles L. and Alice M. (Hayward) Nichols. On Nov. 24, 1927, he married Mae J. Odom in Swaledale.

He attended rural Clear Lake Schools and worked for several area farmers. He then worked for the MacNider family at their Indian Head Farms for six years. He farmed in the Clear Lake area for several years. John worked at the All Vet’s Golf Course as a caretaker and greenskeeper. For over 35 years he worked as a custom corn sheller, retiring in 1987.

Mr. Nichols enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake and the I.O.O.F. Lodge #187, Clear Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Mae Nichols, Clear Lake; two sons, John Nichols Jr., and his wife, Edith, Clear Lake, and Don Nichols and his wife, Dorothy, Clear Lake; one sister, Marjorie Caffrey, Clear lake; seven grandchildren, Michael, Kathryn, Deborah, Linda, Sandra, Kenneth and Arnie; nine great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, Irene Nichols, Clear Lake, Peggy Odom, Mason City, and Flo Bonner, Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; two sisters; and one daughter, Dorothy.
