LENA NICHOLS FUNERAL RITES WEDNESDAY

CLEAR LAKE – Olina (Lena) Nichols, 98, mother of Mrs. J. Z. (Helen) Stevens, 219 6th Ave. N., died at the Good Shepherd Geriatric Center, Mason City, Monday afternoon where she had been for the last few years.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ward Funeral Home with Dr. John DeLong of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Olina (Lena) Nichols was born Sept. 24, 1869, in Mower County, Minn., the daughter of Ole and Synneva (Henjum) Njos. When she was 4 years old the family moved by covered wagon to Minnehaha County, S.D., where they homesteaded.

There she attended the district school. Mrs. Nichols later worked in Sioux Falls and Garretson, S.D.

She was married to John Twomey on March 17, 1894, at Garretson. . In 1898 they moved to Sioux City. They later moved to savanna, Ill., until 1904, when they moved to Madrid. Mr. Twomey died in 1910.

She was married to Edwin P. Nichols in 1921. Mr. Nichols died in 1943. She made her home in Madrid until the fall of 1956 when she came to live with Mrs. Stevens in Clear Lake.

Mrs. Stevens is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Stevens; one son, Charles J. Twomey, Hot Springs, S.D.; two sisters, Mrs. Martin (Martha) Johnson, Sioux City; Mrs. Oliver (Hilda) Kittleson, Canton, S.D., and two grandsons.

A daughter, Ella Twomey, preceded her in death in 1897.

Mrs. Nichols was a member of the Methodist Church and a life member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Royal Neighbors, all of Madrid.

Pallbearers selected are James R. Gilruth, E. B. Stillman, Warren Duesenberg, M.A. Hintzman, T.E. Sondrol Jr., and James Gadient. Organist will be Mrs. B.B. Bailey.
