Michael Max Hinich 

Michael Max Hinich, 72, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, June 22, 2006 at his home after a long battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. A Funeral Mass was held Monday, June 26, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, Iowa with the Rev. Jon M. Seda officiating. Interment will be held at the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Military Honors will be presented by Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. A memorial fund toward ALS research in memory of Michael has been established.

Mike was born Aug. 6, 1934 in Mason City to Mike and Katherine (Hodak) Hinich. He graduated from Holy Family High School. He served in the army stationed in Germany. Following the service he attended Forest College in Chicago, Ill., receiving an electrical engineering degree. He worked for Kleinschmith in Northbrook, Ill. and Electric System Design until retiring. He then opened an Italian Restaurant La Nonna AKA Blasi in Naperville. He retired to Mason City in 1996 and then moved to Clear Lake.

Michael was known for his generosity, love of sport - especially golf, entertaining and for showing tremendous courage battling ALS.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Tina M. Hinich, Clear Lake; children, Michael D. Hinich and his wife, Andrea, and their children, Kaitlyn and Michelle, Rosemont, Ill. and Kathy Hinich Norman and her husband, John, and their children, Sarah and Eric, Sugar Grove, Ill., Patrick Hinich and his wife, Hilary, and their children, Brian and Jonathon, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; step-children, Susan Bertsch and her husband, Roger, and their children, Lauren, Austin and Brian, Allentown, Penn., Lisa Dzik and her husband, Darren, and their children, Brandon, Sean, Samantha, Michelle, and Matthew, Hanover Park, Ill., Janet Milazzo and her husband, Sal, and their children, Savannah and Brett, Lakevilla, Ill., Sharon Rajewski and her husband, Kurt, and their children William and Jenna, Bartlett, Ill.; a sister, Nancy Walter, Mason City, Iowa; brother-in-law, Harvey Schauf, Mason City; his first wife, Carol J. Hinich, Rosemont, Ill., and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Katie Hinich; brother, Millhoevan Hinich; sisters, Millie Bielik and Helen Schauf; brother-in-law, Raymond Walter and niece, Nancy Rae Walter.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
