CLEAR LAKE — Billie Renee Hanes, 71, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, (Feb. 5, 2005) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A celebration of her life and sharing of memories will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Docks, 475 North Shore Drive in Clear Lake with Pastor Edward Bard, chaplin with Hospice of North Iowa, officiating.

The family of Billie Renee Hanes has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, or to the charity of one's choice in her memory.

According to her wishes, her body was cremated.

Billie Renee Hanes was born on July 19, 1933, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Fred Lester and Marguerite Ardeen (Arnold) Jackson. She graduated from Mason City High School in the class of 1951. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Edward Eugene Hanes on Dec. 27, 1953, in Mason City.

During her life, Billie was a private secretary and youth counselor for the Governor's Youth Program and North Iowa Community Action Program in the Mason City State Offices until her retirement in 1973.

Billie served on the North Iowa Area Community College Foundation Board, Clear Lake Arts Council Board, North Iowa Huskies Board, Clear Lake Ladies Golf Association, past president, current president of the P.E.O. Chapter LE, and assisted her husband, Ed, with whatever projects he was working on.

Billie loved to play golf, watch high school sports and travel, but her true passion and love was her grandchildren and anything in which they were involved.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Edward Hanes of Clear Lake; children: Jacquelyn Ward and her husband, David, of Monroe, Conn., Sandyann Rolland and her husband, Brent, of Clear Lake, and Nancy Jo Lundeen and her husband, Tom, of Clear Lake; grandchildren: Christopher Ward and his wife, Abigail, of Williamsburg, Va., Benjamin Ward of Monroe, Conn., Casey Ward of Monroe, Conn., Ryan Baack of Clear Lake, Reid Baack of Clear Lake, Drake Lundeen of Clear Lake, and Aspen Lundeen of Clear Lake; three brothers: Jerry Jackson and his wife, Karen, of Denver, Colo., Fritz Jackson and wife, Laurie of Ark., and Dennis Jackson and wife, Breta, of Omaha, Neb.; and one sister, Judy Coppock and husband, Jerry, of Bellevue, Neb.; as well as other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North Fourth Street, Clear Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
