CLEAR LAKE WOMAN DIES
MRS. H. VANHAAFTEN, 80, DIES IN HOSPITAL

CLEAR LAKE – Mrs. Henry VanHaaften, 80, who has been ill several weeks, died late Thursday at a Mason City hospital where she was taken earlier in the day. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body is at the Wilcox Funeral Home.

Mrs. VanHaaften was born Dora Benson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Benson in Marion County, Ia., Aug. 7, 1872. She lived in that vicinity and was married to Mr. VanHaaften in 1900. They continued to live in Marion County until Mr. VanHaaften died in 1927.

Mrs. VanHaaften is survived by seven children, Mrs. Georgia Blockman, Hollywood, Calif.; William VanHaaften, Bellevue, Neb.; John VanHaaften, Belmond; Dwight VanHaaften, Burbank, Calif.; Mrs. Loreen VanArsdale, Myrtle Creek, Ore.; Dale VanHaaften, Chicago, and Mrs. Gerald Baughman, 1005 3rd Ave. S., Clear Lake; 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Also surviving are four brothers, John Benson, Lacygne, Kan.; Robert Benson, Waseca, Minn.; Grover Benson, Hastings, Neb., and Elijah Benson, Des Moines, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Speed, Des Moines.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Omrah Benson, who died last March at Deer River, Minn.

Mrs. VanHaaften was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints.
