GILMORE 'LYLE' HELGELAND

MASON CITY - Gilmore "Lyle" Helgeland, 67, of Mason City, died on Friday, May 16, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. with a one-hour prior visitation on Monday, May 19, 2014, at the Church of Christ, 710 N. Kentucky Ave., Mason City.

The Rev. Alan Sheldon will be officiating.

A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Fullerton Funeral Home.

Those planning on expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Mason City Community Kitchen, 606 N. Monroe Ave., Mason City, IA 50401.

Lyle was born in Mason City on Jan. 11, 1947, to Gilmore and Alta Helgeland, but was raised by parents Champ and Dorothy Delk.

He was the first boy to graduate from the Eldora State Training School in Eldora.

He served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969.

Lyle's longest occupation was working for Northern Vending in a management position.

He attended the Church of Christ for many years.

Lyle had a very kind heart and was a generous person.

His pride and joy was his son Justin who passed away last year.

Lyle opened his home to many boys he helped raise.

He loved his two dogs, Peaches and Trixie.

In his free time he enjoyed playing cards.

Lyle also enjoyed family dinners; especially eating the mashed potatoes.

Even during the times Lyle struggled with his health he always worried about those he loved and will be remembered as a caring and loving person.

Those left to cherish his memory are sons, Evan Main and Matt (Rachel) Catherman; daughter, Holly Main; brothers, Dennis, Gordon, and Gene Helgeland; mother, Dorothy Delk, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gilmore "Justin" Helgeland; parents, Gilmore and Alta Helgeland; father, Champ Delk; sister, Marlene Delk and brother, Perry Montgomery.
