Obituary - Maxine Edith (Clark) Bacon

Maxine Edith Bacon, 81, of 105 South Shore Drive, Clear Lake, died Sunday June 10, 2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. Memorial Services will be held 10:30 AM Friday June 15, 2007, at the Church of Christ, 2010 14th Ave North, Clear Lake, IA, with Rev. James Allard and Pastor Curtis McGinnis officiating.

Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, IA. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th St., Clear Lake, IA.

Maxine was born July 12, 1925 in Mason City, IA the daughter of Frank & Erma (Whitmore) Clark at Mason City, IA. Maxine attended Britt #3 Country Schoolhouse through 8th grade. Maxine married Lewis H. Bacon on July 11, 1944 at the Clear Lake Methodist parsonage. They made their home on a farm north of Ventura until Lewis's death, June 2, 1969. Maxine did housekeeping in Clear Lake and moved to Clear Lake in the early 1970's. She worked for E.F. Johnson in Clear Lake and while working there obtained her G.E.D. Following the closing of E.F. Johnson she attended N.I.A.C.C. She worked for Opportunity Village in the Development Office for 29 years retiring May 3, 2007 due to her health. Maxine's biggest priority in life was spending time with her family. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities and just hanging out with them. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, crocheting, NASCAR and listening to music. Maxine was member of the Church of Christ, Clear Lake.

Maxine is survived by her children, Susan L. Bacon of Clear Lake, IA; Mark L. (Doris) Bacon of Mason City, IA; Mary L. (Cliff) Petersen of Fertile, IA; and Lori L. (Jerry) Barkela of Clear Lake, IA; six grandchildren, Matthew (Melissa) Petersen; Abigail Petersen and special friend Trey Williams; Adam Barkela and fiancé Kelli Thompson; David Barkela; Jenni (Will) Speicher, Josh Bacon and Andrea Miller and one great-granddaughter Avery Bacon; two sisters, Erma Lou (Jerry) Smith of Mason City, IA, and Barbara (Bob) Roenfranz of Arkansas; four sisters-in-law, Frances Clark of Plymouth, IA; Mary Clark of Mason City, IA; Anna Grace Bacon and Shirley Neel both of Clear Lake, IA, and Rosemary (Merle) Isebrand of Florida; one brother-in-law Cletus Shimek of Charles City, IA.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lewis, infant son Gary Bacon, grandson Joey Petersen, three brothers, Morris Clark, Harold Clark and Robert Clark, two sisters, Marjorie Toppin and Phyllis Shimek.
