Gone to Meet His God.
DIED.—Charles Henry Farnsworth, aged 30 years, 2 months and 8 days, died Sunday, Oct. 30th, 1887, at 4:15 p.m,, af{sic} typhoid-malaria fever accompanied with a general congestion, and was buried Wednesday at 11 in the Elmwood cemetery, services being conducted at the Christian church by Elder Sumpter, assisted by Rev. Bird and Elder Cyrus Alton.
Deceased was born in Whitewater, Wis., from whence he moved with his parents to Cresco, Iowa, in 1870, where in 1881 he joined hands and hearts with Miss Ida Vance, who remained his faithful wife until his demise. In August last he moved with his family to Elmwood where he, in company with Mr. L. F. Uhley, proceeded to erect and establish a first class grocery store, the building being nearly completed and the goods having arrived a day or two before he died. He leaves a wife and two small children to mourn their loss, besides a father, mother, three brothers and three sisters, who deeply sigh for their departed son and brother. We learn from Master Workman M. R. Farnsworth of Cresco, that the deceased was ever interested on the side of justice, humanity, temperance and equal rights, regardless of sex—embracing the principles of the noble order of Knights of Labor. He was initiated into L. A. “Fidelity” 4343, and has ever since been true to its principles and an active working member. He left Cresco with a traveling card from his local, having paid all dues up to Jan. 1, 1888.
Such a majestic and consoling chapter was read from the bible at the funeral services by Elder Alton, and such an eloquent and pathetic prayer was offered up to God by the Rev. Bird, and such an appropriate and authentic sermon was delivered by Elder Sumpter, that we feel our inability to offer any more words of condolence and consolation than those that have been uttered by the three ministers of the Gospel, inspired by the Divine. The Echo however, in behalf of the whole community extends its heartfelt sympathy to the relatives in their saddest hour of bereavment.{sp} –Elmwood Echo.
