Rites set for Emma J. Duncan
Emma J. Duncan 93, widow of John E. Duncan, died Wednesday evening at a Mason City nursing home. She had lived in Mason City 52 years and made her home at 517 Delaware NE.
Mrs. Duncan was born May 21, 1868, at Bedford, Va., daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Powell. She was married to John E. Duncan in September 1888 at Bedford, Va. They moved to Mason City in 1909.
Surviving are five sons, John E. Duncan, Mason City; Frank L. Duncan, Clear Lake; Barney M. Duncan, Mason City; Robert E. Duncan, Clear Lake, and William A. Duncan, Mason City; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1920 and by two daughters, four sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Duncan was a member of the First Baptist Church, Amvets, Widows of Civil War Veterans, a member of the Past Presidents Club of the Women's Relief Corps, a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Past Presidents Parley of the American Legion Auxiliary.
For many years she led the pledge of allegiance at the Memorial Day services.
Funeral services will be hel at 2 p.m. Friday at the Major Memorial Chapel. The Rev. G. Robert Buttrick, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The Major-Erickson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
