ARTHUR BURCKHARDT

Arthur L. Burckhardt, 76, of 503 3rd Ave. N., Clear Lake, and a retired employee of Wilcox Furniture here, died Friday (Dec. 28, 1984) at a Waseca, Minn., hospital.

Mr. Burckhardt worked at the former W. H. Ward Furniture Store and Funeral Home, Clear Lake, and was also active in the Ambulance Company here. After the furniture store closed, he operated Art’s Floor Covering business for about five years. In 1966 he began work at Wilcox Furniture and retired in 1970.

He was born Dec. 23, 1908 in Boscobel, Wis., to John and Bessie (Curttright) Burckhardt. He attended school in Boscobel, Wis., and later moved to Clear Lake. Mr. Burckhardt was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy and received a Purple Heart. He married Mildred J. Seeley on April 16, 1932 in Boscobel, Wis.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church, VFW, and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Clear Lake, for many years.

Memorial services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Markus Hill of the Assembly of God Church, Excelsior, Minn., officiating. The body was cremated and burial will be at a later date at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Sally) Hill, Tonka Bay, Minn., and Mrs. Roger (Cynthia) Ashland, Waseca, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Marjorie Rust, Boscobel, Wis., and two brothers, John, Viroqua, Wis., and Stanley, Oscoda, Mich. A daughter, Sylvia Frederick, is deceased.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Cecil Burckhardt.
