Mrs. H. C. (Ella) Sprung, 79, died suddenly Sunday evening in a Mason City hospital. She had lived in Mason City 20 years and made her home at 1152 East State.
Mrs. Sprung was born May 3, 1885, at Hubbard, daughter of Ferdinand and Amelia (Pilger) Witthuhn. She was graduated from Hubbard High School and taught school until she was married to Harry C. Sprung, Feb. 16, 1905, at Callaway, Neb.
They farmed near Steamboat Rock until 1920 when they moved to Mitchell County, where they farmed until moving to Mason City Dec. 1, 1944.
Surviving are her husband; three sons, Lawrence A. Sprung, of California; Earl H. Sprung, Laurel, Iowa; and Alvin M. Spring, Plymouth; two daughters, Mrs. Charles J. (Arlene) Gerk and Mrs. Marvin G. (Marla) Willemsen, both of Mason City; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Arthur Whitthuhn, Denver, Iowa, and Henry Whitthuhn, Tabor, and a sister, Mary McFarland, Arnold, Neb., also survive. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth, in 1955, and by two grandchildren.
Mrs. Sprung was a member of the Methodist Church of Plymouth and the W. S. C. S. of the church. She was a past member of the Golden Wedding Club.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The Hogan-McKee Colonial Funeral Home is in charge.
