D. W. Fernau rites Tuesday at Swaledale

SWALEDALE - Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Swaledale Baptist Church for Dwight Wesley Fernau. He died at his home in Sioux Rapids, Friday. The Rev. Herman Crawford and the Rev. O. M. McQuary, Sioux Rapids, officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Swaledale.

Born in Franklin County, he was graduated from the Swaledale High School in 1922. He farmed with his father before starting to teach in 1928. He was married to Josie Ingham, Swaledale, June 1, 1928, and received a degree from Iowa State Teachers College in 1931. He had been a member of the Sioux Rapids faculty since 1949.

Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Elizabeth) Brugman, Cheyenne, Wyo.; Mrs. Keith (Evelyn) Paul, Chicago; Helen, at home; two granddaughters, a sister, Marie Crabb, Chapin; his stepmother, Mrs. Dora Fernau, Sioux Rapids; two stepsisters and a stepbrother.
