MRS. C. F. BROSE DIES, INVALID MANY YEARS
Funeral services for Mrs. Carl F. Brose, 84, who died at her home, 218 Jefferson street, Tuesday noon, were held at the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The rev. Thomas B. Collins, pastor of the Methodist church, conducted the rites and burial was in Clear Lake cemetery. Mrs. Brose had been an invalid and confined to her bed for many years. She had failed rapidly the past few years.
She was born, Mary Helen Haddow, at Waupun, Wis., July 11, 1858, the daughter of John and Mary Allen Haddow. In 1887 she came to Iowa with her parents and on April 10, 1881, was married to Carl F. Brose at the George E. Lyman home in Cerro Gordo county. Mr. Brose preceded her in death in November 1939.
The couple lived on a farm near Clear Lake for a number of years and then moved to Cedar Falls, where they remained until coming to their present home 25 years ago.
Seven of the eight children, born to this union, survive. They are Frank Brose and Mrs. M. S. Rogers, Mason City; Mrs. Edward Chapin, Los Angeles, Calif.; Lyle Brose, Madison, Wis.; Lloyd Brose, Northfield, Minn.; and Elma Brose and G. E. Brose, Clear Lake. One daughter, Mrs. John Lewis, Los Angeles, died in 1941. Mrs. Brose is also survived by a half sister, Mrs. Robert Kelly, Hansell, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Pallbearers were J. L. McWilliams, R. J. Sweiger, W. J. McGowan, L. J. Kutschara, Ed Rusia and R. R. Rogers. Mrs. Edith Naylor and Mrs. Sweiger arranged the flowers.
