HOLLIS J. BURKE
CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services for Hollis J. Burke, 74, of 906 Main Ave., Clear Lake, who died Monday (July 11, 1983) at a Mason City hospital, will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.
The Rev. Keith Tomlinson will officiate. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel here.
The family requests memorials be made to the Hollis Burke Memorial Fund.
Mr. Burke was born April 26, 1909, in Iowa Falls to John and Dena (Shaw) Burke. He graduated from Mason City High School and attended Hamilton Business College, Mason City.
He was employed for 15 years with Higley and Hutchinson Ice Cream Co., in Mason City. He worked as dispatcher and manager of Ruan Transport Co. in Clear Lake for 27 years and retired in 1971.
Mr. Burke also farmed northwest of Clear Lake for many years.
He married Violet I. Erickson on Sept. 13, 1933, in Minneapolis. She died Feb. 3, 1962. Mr. Burke married Evalyn L. Nissen on April 24, 1965.
Mr. Burke is survived by his wife, Evalyn, Clear Lake; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Patricia) Patrick, St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Duane (Sandy) Hepperly, Mason City, and Karen Schipper, Hampton; three sons, John H. Burke, Clear Lake; William K. Burke, McGregor, and Larry Burke, Minneapolis; a stepson, Peter J. Nissen, Milwaukee, Wis.; 24 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Howard Burke, Oelwein, and William Burke, Clear Lake; three sisters, Mrs. Irving (Pearl) Ashland, Clear Lake; Mrs. Waldo (Lois) Thomas, Leucadia, Calif., and Mrs. Glen (Katherine) Fessenden, Mason City.
