A GOOD CITIZEN GONE TO HIS REWARD

The death of Amos E. Wright on Sunday greatly surprised the people of Clear Lake. His illness that termated fatally was of short duration. It was not until a year ago that he felt any impairment of his health, and he hardly realized the inroads of the disease and until about three weeks ago he was attending to his duties at the lumber yard as usual. There was a sudden change, failing very rapidly, but able to sit up. It was only a few moments before the vital spark fled that he had walked from his chair to his bed. Cancer of the stomach caused his death.

Amos E. Wright was born in Ohio October 26th, 1848, and passed away at his home May the 6th, 1917. At the age of 10 years, he with his parents, settled in Chapin, Iowa, making that his home until 1910, coming to Clear Lake on December 21st, 1876. He was united in marriage with Mary L. Neal of Grant County, Wisconsin, who with one son, Clyde N. Wright and a nephew, Everett Neal, who has made his home with them since infancy, and three sisters, Clara Green of Chelan, Washington, Estella Maxson of Mason City, and Mary McCormick of Falls City, Neb., who with his many friends are left to mourn the loved one gone to his eternal home.

He conducted a general store for a number of years at Chapin, a lumber yard the last three years of his residence there.

With his son, Clyde, they operated a lumber yard here since early 1912.

The out of town relatives present were O. F. Neal and Edward G. Neal of Des Moines, J. W. Neal and family of Mason City, and Mrs. Sarah Wright of Chapin. The out of town friends were J. W. Cummings of Hampton, Miss Marion Vought of Des Moines, N. J. Rhutasel, D. E. Kenyon, E. O. Esslinger, William Bobst and Frank Ruble of Chapin.

The deceased was a man of irreproachable character, possessing the deepest religious convictions and his influence was always exerted in the right direction and for the betterment of humanity.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home, Christian Science services being conducted by Mrs. D. H. Campbell. Interment in Clear Lake Cemetery.
