VIRGIL L. WRIGHT

MASON CITY – Virgil L. Wright, 88, of 408 S. Tennessee Pl., died Saturday (June 12, 1999) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Sharon Betsworth of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Clear lake Cemetery with veteran’s rite performed by Mason City Memorial Association at graveside.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at major Erickson Funeral Home and on Tuesday morning until the time of the service. At 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, a Masonic service by the Benevolence Lodge No. 145 A.F and A.M. will begin.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.

Virgil L Wright was born May 13, 1911, in Clear Lake, to Clyde N. and Myrtle (Minnier) Wright. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1929.

Virgil served in the U.S. Army during World War II, primarily in the European theater with the Seventh Army and later with the Third Army.

In 1951, Virgil married Winifred Simons. Virgil worked for the Iowa State Highway Commission, later known as the Department of Transportation, for 30 years before retiring in 1976.

Virgil was a member of Benevolence Lodge No. 145 A.F. & A.M., Cedar Rapids Consistory, El Kahir Shrine, Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 375, Moose Lodge No. 1328. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 4868 of Clear Lake.

Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred, who died in 1958; his parents; and his sister, Genevieve.

He is survived by many friends including Louise Hefty and Lucille Wilcox both of Clear Lake.
