TUESDAY RITES FOR MRS. J. PURVIANCE

CLEAR LAKE – Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilcox-Osthus Funeral Home for Mrs. John (Neva) Purviance, 83, 1105 S. 8th St., who died Friday evening at a Garner nursing home. She had been ill several months.

The Rev. George Baker, interim pastor of the Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Mrs. Purviance was born Dec. 25, 1887, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of William and Amelia Ann Catherine (Blackburn) Holmes. In 1891, the family moved to Adair County and she received her education in Adair County schools.

She was married Nov. 19, 1905, to John W. Purviance at Marcus. They later moved to the Clear Lake area where he was engaged in farming. Mr. Purviance died in 1867.

Survivors include four sons, John, Rockford, Ill.; Floyd, Prescott, Ariz.; Jesse, Clear Lake; Clyde, Mason City; five daughters, Mrs. Orlo (Clara) Ball, Prescott, Ariz.; Mrs. Cecil (Opal) Coffin, Augusta, Kan.; Mrs. Brad (Lola) Cook, Hudson, Wis.; Mrs. Warren (Irene) Millard, Floyd; Mrs. Everett (Allene) Hollitz, Clear Lake; 18 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Earl, in infancy and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers include James Strandquist, Dennis and Donald Purviance, Russell Millard, Edward Hejna, Merwyn Kaasa and Jon Matson. Organist is Mrs. Tom Treloar and soloist, Mrs. Larry Lovick.

Transcriber’s Note – Neva Purviance was born December 25, 1887, died September 10, 1971 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section 8 Row 4.
