L. G. HOLLISTER, AFTER A TWO WEEKS’ ILLNESS, DIED LAST THURSDAY – FUNERAL HELD SUNDAY
HAD BEEN IN BUSINESS HERE SINCE 1873, WAS HIGHLY RESPECTED BY ALL

L. G. Hollister, one of Clear Lake’s most honored and respected citizens, passed away last Thursday night. He had been in rather poor health for a month or two, but was able to be up and around and was at his place of business as usual until about two weeks ago. Heart and kidney trouble were assigned as the causes of his death.

His daughter Marjory came home to keep house for him, shortly before he was taken ill. He had the best of care and medical attention possible but Mr. Hollister himself realized the seriousness of his condition.

Mr. Hollister was born in New York, Nov. 12, 1845, and was thus about 73 years of age at the time of his death. He was a college educated man, was well read and took a deep interest in all national affairs. In 1873 he located in Clear Lake, and opened an implement shop in which line of business he has since been engaged. During this forty-five years he has carried on his business in one location, the building in which the shop is now located.

In about 1873 or 1874, he was married to Miss Donahue of Mason City. To this union one daughter, now Mrs. A. M. Brager, of Murray, Iowa, was born. Mrs. Hollister died a year and a half ago.

Mr. Hollister was justice of the peace here for many years, was also at one time school director, councilman and mayor, in all of which positions he discharged his duty ably and faithfully. No man in Clear Lake was held in higher respect and esteem.

He was a prominent member of the I.O.O.F., the Masonic and Eastern Star Lodges.

The funeral services were held on Sunday at 2:30 at the Congregational Church, Rev. Evans delivering the sermon. The I.O.O.F. and the Eastern Star members were each present in a body at the church. At the cemetery, the Masonic Lodge had charge of the services which proved very impressive. Interment was made in the family vault.

Transcriber’s Note – Ludwig G. Hollister was born November 12, 1845, died 1918 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section 2 Row 8.
