FROST FUNERAL HELD AT HOME
W. B. MILNE OFFICIATES AT LAST RITES FOR PIONEER RESIDENT

CLEAR LAKE, Dec. 12 – A large crowd of friends and neighbors packed the Frost residence on North Fourth Street Wednesday afternoon for the funeral services of Mrs. A. D. Frost, prominent resident, who died at 9:40 o’clock Monday morning after an illness extending over a five-month period.

Beautiful floral offerings which banked the casket and rooms of the home, gave silent tribute to the dead. The Rev. W. B. Milne, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiated. Burial was made in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

In July she suffered a heart attack from which there was hope of recovery. However, abnormally hot weather shortly after the attack together with her advanced age, operated against this, and she gradually weakened until death finally overtook her as she slept.

Azubah Duncan was born near Wardsville, Ont., on Jan. 21, 1840, the first child of a family of seven, all of whom have preceded her in death. In 1846 the Duncan family moved from Canada to McHenry County, Illinois, where it resided until 1863, when it came to Clear Lake. In 1865, she was married to George Eldridge Frost, who made a home for her at Fourth and State streets, where she has since lived.

Here she pioneered in the early days of the settlement and helped her husband in its development. She saw the railroad come and saw her husband build the first telephone in Clear Lake. She watched with interest all of the town’s improvements, and took part in them when she could.

Altho she was baptized in the Episcopal church, she affiliated with and worked with the Baptist and later the Congregational church here. She was one of the charter members of the Eastern Star and of the Library Reading club, in which she maintained an interest until the last. She was especially pleased with the many tokens of esteem sent her by friends in these organizations during her illness.

She is survived by her three children, Agnes, now Mrs. C. R. Woodford; Mary, who lived with her, and son, George Ernest, her husband having died in 1887. There are also these grandchildren, Esther Woodford Ashland and George E. and Mary Anna Frost, and a great grandchild, Marcia Jean Ashland. To all of these she has been a good mother, kind, patient, and helpful, her relatives say.

Transcriber’s Note – Azubah Frost was born January 21, 1840, died December 1928 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section 2 Row 6.
