D. WASHBURN DIES, SERVICE IS THURSDAY

CLEAR LAKE –Donald Everett Washburn, 79, 14 N. 10th Street, died Monday morning at Veterans Hospital, Des Moines, where he had been since Dec. 10.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home. The Rev. Roy Gray, Calvary Alliance Church, Mason City, and the Rev. Gary Gonnerman, pastor of Clear Lake Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Donald Everett Washburn was born March 9, 1890, at Langdon, Mo., the son of James and Mary (May) Washburn. He received his education in Langdon and farmed there until 1918 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army with which he served in France during World War I.

Following his discharge in 191, Mr. Washburn returned to Langdon and was married to Eva Jones on Dec. 8, 1921, at St. Peter, Minn. They lived in Mankato for one year and farmed in South Dakota for one year, moving to Mason City in 1923.

The family moved to Clear Lake in 1928 where they have lived since that time. Between the years of 1942-1945 he worked in a shipping yard in Portland, Ore. Mr. Washburn also worked a short time for the city of Clear Lake before his retirement in 1953.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Leonard, Clear Lake; a sister, Mrs. Carl Paris, Fort Orchard, Wash., and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Pallbearers selected include Marion Sorensen, Kermit Studer, Edmund Dreyer, Ivan Scott, Vernon Dahl and Donald Toepfer.
