RITES HELD FOR YOUNG MOTHER
VIRGINIA CHOATE WATKINS IS SURVIVED BY HUSBAND AND TWO CHILDREN

CLEAR LAKE, June 7 – Funeral services for Mrs. Hubert Watkins, 28, of Manning, were held Monday afternoon at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Choate, North Third Street. The Rev. W. B. Milne, pastor of the Congregational church, officiated. Burial was made in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

A group of young men acted as pallbearers – Frederick Palmeter, Lewis Woodstock, Burdette Baily, George Milne, M. P. Hughes and Ralph Ingersoll. Mrs. R. E. Monaghan sang “Leave It With You,” accompanied by Mrs. B. B. Bailey.

Mrs. Watkins died suddenly Friday afternoon at the Manning hospital with embolism. She is survived by her husband, daughter, Alice Joanne, aged 2, a son four days old, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Choate; a sister, Ada Katherine, and brother, Roger.

Gladys Virginia Watkins was born in Clear Lake on Feb. 5, 1904, and lived here until her marriage.

She was graduated from the local high school in 1921, attended Mason City Junior college one year and completed a teaching course at the Iowa State Teachers’ College, where she was affiliated with the V.O.V. Sigma Sorority. After teaching in the grades two years in Wellsburg and in Clear Lake two years she was married to Hubert Beck Watkins on March 25, 1928. They have lived in Grinnell, Des Moines and Manning.

The out-of-town relatives at the funeral were Hubert B. Watkins, Manning; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Franzenberg, Pierson: Mr. and Mrs. James Watkins, Kingsley; Mrs. Manly Paisley, St. Paul; Mrs. Beck, Des Moines; Donald Merrill, Des Moines; Mrs. A. R. Klein, Mishawaka, Ind.; Mrs. Mary Flynn, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Choate, Jackson Junction.

Others from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cramer, Mr. and Mrs. William Bauer, Manning, and Mrs. Harriet Sisson, Bassett.

Transcriber’s Note – Virginia Gladys Watkins was born February 5, 1904, died June 1932 and was buried in Clear Lake Cemetery, Section 2 Row 7.
