VINCENT J. BARKHURST

VENTURA – Mr. Vincent John Barkhurst, 63, of 8 N. German St., Ventura, died Tuesday (May 3, 1994) at Daytona Beach, Fla.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura, with the Rev. Daird Korth officiating. Following the services the body will be cremated and inurnment will take place at a later date in Clear Lake Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. The family suggests memorials to Vincent John Memorial Fund.

He was born May 4, 1930, in Thornton, the son of Grandville and Louise (Jorgenson) Barkhurst. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1948.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He married Mary Hall in Philadelphia, Pa., and the moved to Clear Lake to live.

He later married Alice Berschman on Nov. 30, 1963, in Buffalo Center. He had been in the trucking business for most of his life and for the last 20 years he drove truck for Umthun Trucking of Eagle Grove, Iowa and then Midwest Driver Corporation out of St. Paul, Minn., since 1979 until his retirement in 1993. In August of 1993 he started driving taxi for the Silver Boot Motel in Clear Lake and enjoyed driving for residents of Handicap Village. He also did volunteer work for human services out of Mason City.

He loved to boat, fish, travel and most of all visit with people.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Barkhurst of Ventura; three daughters, Patricia Tietjen and her husband, Bill, of Philadelphia, Pa., and Dawn Barkhurst and Cathy Barkhurst, both of Ventura; one son, Steven Barkhurst of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two brothers, Everett Barkhurst of Park Forest, Ill., and Varian Barkhurst of Clear Lake; five grandchildren, William Barnhardt, Frank Barnhardt, NicholeBarnhardt, Steven Barkhurst Jr. and Timothy Barkhurst.

He was preceded in death by his parents by his parents and three brothers, Virgil Barkhurst, Leroy Barkhurst and Stanley Barkhurst.
