VIRGIL BARKHURST

Funeral services were held Dec. 22 at the Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home for Virgil Barkhurst, 50, of Oakland, Calif., who died Dec. 16, at the Marshall Hale Hospital in San Francisco following an illness.

The Rev. August Geske of Zion Lutheran Church officiated at Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home. Mrs. A. E. Folkmann was organist and Mrs. Dale Becker soloist.

Pallbearers were Gary Barkhurst, Varian Barkhurst, Roger Schoneman, Everitt Barkhurst, Vincent Barkhurst, and James Polsdofer. Interment was in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Virgil J.W. Barkhurst was born Dec. 14, 1925 at Thornton, the son of Glanville and Louise (Jorgensen) Barkhurst. He received his education in the Thornton Schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During World War II he served in the South Pacific. Following his discharge he remained in the San Francisco area. Recently he was a salesman for a truck driver’s school.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Henry (Louise) Schoneman of Clear Lake and by five brothers. Everett, Park Forest, Ill.; Vincent, Buffalo Center; Varian, Clear Lake; Stanley, Salinas, Calif.; and Leroy Barkhurst of El Paso, Tex.

Transcriber’s Note - Virgil J.W. Barkhurst was born December 14, 1925, died December 16, 1975 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section 3 Row 4. The headstone indicates that he was born December 4, 1925 and died December 15, 1975.
