LOYD A. SPILMAN

CLEAR LAKE – Loyd A. Spilman, 53, Route 1, Clear Lake died Friday morning in a Mason City hospital following an illness of one year.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church with Rev. Arthur Krebs officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home.

Mr. Spilman was born Jan. 2, 1916 at Clear lake, the son of Alex and Anna (Katz) Spilman.

He attended Clear Lake High School and following his father’s death in 1933 he farmed with his mother. During World War II he served four years in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army in Texas and the South Pacific.

He was married to Gladys Mykelstad on April 13, 1946, at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. They lived in Clear Lake for a short while and then started farming at their present farm four miles south of Clear Lake in 1947.

Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Sheryl, student at Mankato State College, Mankato, Minn.; Kathy, student at the University of Iowa, and Carol, at home. His mother, Mrs. Anna Spilman, Clear Lake, and two sisters, Mrs. Vern (Marion) Barlow, Mason City, and Mrs. Shirley (Elsie) Coe, Ventura, also survive.

Pallbearers who will serve are cousins, Sam, Orval, Dale, Dan, Wayne and Dean Spilman.

He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and AmVets posts.
