RUTH C. BUSSA
MASON CITY –Ruth C. Bussa, 84, of Mason City, formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday (May 15, 2000) at the Heritage Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home, 101 N. Fourth St. Clear Lake, with burial at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Ruth was born on March 27, 1916, in Mount Vernon Township, Cerro Gordo County, the daughter of Peter and Lois (Shroyer) Thompson. She grew up in the Swaledale and Mason City areas.
Ruth was united in marriage to Walter Bussa on Jan. 3, 1935, in Northwood. They ran a restaurant and tavern in Swaledale for several years. Ruth then worked for many years as a cook at Tommy’s Café in Mason City. Later the couple moved to Clear Lake, where Ruth worked as a cook at Carol’s Café. She also worked several years as a cook at the Sale Barn in Garner before retiring in the early 1990s and moving to the Meadows in Clear Lake. For the past five years, Ruth has been a resident at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City.
Ruth is survived by one half-brother, Richard Juhl of Arizona; a half-sister, Lola Mae Fanning of Ankeny; one step-sister, Bernice Low of Albert Lea, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; two brothers, Marion and Dean Thompson; one sister, Ara Van Hooser; one half-brother, Robert Juhl; and one step-sister, Doris.
