ARTHUR G. BUTTS

Funeral services for Arthur Guy Butts, 70, were held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Congregational Church. The Rev. Kenneth Ubbelohde officiated. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. IOOF Lodge 107 conducted services at 7:30 Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home.

Mr. Butts, of 806 S. 8th St., died Tuesday morning in a hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla. He had been in ill health since December.

Born March 8, 1902 at Sycamore, Ill., he was the son of Charles and Maude (Nichols) Butts. In 1916 they moved to a farm south of Clear Lake.

He attended rural Clear Lake School and was married to Edna Shaffer Sept. 1, 1922, at Mason City.

They lived in Sycamore and DeKalb, Ill., where he was in construction work. They returned to Clear Lake in 1929 when he started a well-drilling company which he operated until semi-retirement in 1870.

They had spent winters in Pinella Park, Fla., since 1957.

Surviving is his wife, a son, Dale, Visalia, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Wesley (Arvette) Peterson, Fremont, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Violet Smail, Thornton; two brothers, Clifford and Lewis, San Leandro, Calif.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

He was a member of First Congregational Church, a past noble grand of IOOF Lodge 107 and the last several years had served as its treasurer.

Honorary pallbearers were Harry Olson, L.E. Jacobson, Sam Arnold, Clifford Peterson, Clair Heifner, G. E. Curphy. Active pallbearers were Wayne Wonsmos, Alfred Larson, J.W. Pate, Gerald Heitland, Glenn Westover and Howard Nye.
