MRS. THIES DIES AT 81 AFTER ILLNESS

CLEAR LAKE – Mrs. Fred Thies, 81, died Saturday evening at a Mason City hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilcox Funeral Home with Dr. John E. DeLong, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Julia Thies was born Aug. 21, 1881, at Eldorado to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Swehla. After her marriage to Fred Thies, they made their home in Lincoln County, Minnesota, later moving to Waukon, Eldorado and Charles City. They farmed in the Clear Lake area for several years after coming here in 1920.

They retired and moved to town shortly before Mr. Thies’s death in 1942. She has made her home with her daughter, Phyllis Wood, 508 4th Ave. N.

Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis; one grandson, Ronnie Thies and two stepsons, Clifford Thies, Fertile, Minn., and Lallie Thies, Hendricks, Minn. She was preceded in death by one son, Royal.
